Mahindra Mojo's stripped down version has been spotted at dealership,The new Mojo is coined as 'UT300' and missed out lots of things on board. The carburated variant of the Mojo is going to be a low cost version of the bike, which we can expect to be officially launched later this month.

Moving up from the 200cc segment, the 300cc motorcycle market in India is picking up the heat. With the launch of Dominar 400, newly re-launched Royal Enfield Himalayan and The KTM twins, the 300cc segment is the new battleground. Mahindra is also seeking to cash in on this new rage by revamping its popular Mahindra Mojo motorcycle into a more affordable and sportier avatar.
Enter the Mahindra Mojo UT300, a more trimmed down version of Mahindra Mojo, at least when it comes to its dimensions. The UT300 shares the same 295cc Engine from its sibling which produces 26.82 BHP at 8000 RPM and 30 NM at 5500 RPM. The engine comes mated to a 6-speed gearbox.

This version of Mojo differs from the previous version because it is carbureted and lacks USD and Pirelli tyres. The daytime running lights are also gone but the rest of the headlamp setup remains same. Going by the looks of it, The Mojo UT300 features single exhaust, golden ribs are now blacked out along with swing-arm and suspension
It is clear that Mahindra is trying to directly challenge Bajaj’s Dominar 400, which is currently the top choice of people when it comes to a value for money performance motorcycle. Considering this, we can expect the price of Mojo UT300 within Rs 1.4 to 1.5 Lakh range. This motorcycle will finally give options to those users who wanted to buy a Mahindra Mojo but were either not a fan of its bulky styling or its hefty price tag.

Beyond the fight in the power cruiser territory, the RE Classic 350 still manages to be the top-selling motorcycle across the 300cc segment despite having much less performance than any of the aforementioned motorcycle. So it’d interesting to see how the market dynamic shifts when a naked cruiser like Mojo UT300 hits the market.

Mojo Carb – Missing Features
Fuel Injection – Take a look under that tank and you will see a fuel knob. This simply means that this Mojo is running on a carburetor (in place of a fuel injector). This will mean significant price advantage for motorcyclists.

USD Forks – In place of premium upside-down front forks, we can see the conventional telescopics. We have seen many motorcycles ditching USDs recently and frankly, in motorcycles of this capacity we believe regular telescopics, if they offer significant price gain, are more than good enough for the job!

Exhaust – The left side exhaust is not to be seen. When we asked Mahindra about two exhausts on a single cylinder Mojo, we were told that they wanted to keep a bassy exhaust note. So, apart from a relatively muted sound, expect a fair bit of weight reduction, and obviously enhanced power to weight ratio (if other specs are not changed).

Pirelli Diablo Rosso Tyres – A casual glance will confirm that these tyres are not the premium Pirellis. Instead slapped on is a set of MRF Zappers from Dominar 400 which are much cheaper.

Power – Since the motor will not be fuel injected, we also expect a minor power/torque reduction.

Few other minor changes are also expected, apart from some cosmetic omissions. If you add up, this could result in a very significant price reduction which could range upto as high as Rs 30,000-40,000! This will answer your question – Why is Mahindra doing this? Automatically, this will give Mojo a fresh breath of air against Dominar 400 which has come in as a new benchmark in VFM-ness in this segment.

Mojo Carb Launch

Since the motorcycle is now at the dealership(s), expect a formal announcement very soon or an official introduction at the Auto Expo early next week.
Mojo Line-up

A cheaper Mojo, probably at around Rs 1.3 ish lakhs, along with the regular Mojo (at Rs 1.7-1.75 Lakh) and a premium Mojo with ABS (at around Rs 1.9 Lakh) will definitely broaden the prospect buyers’ list.
